VORBILD: Die Pennsylvania RR brauchte neue Hochgeschwindigkeits-Elloks für den Passagierdienst auf den Hauptstrecken. Mehr als 20 Jahre hat man herum experimentiert, bis 1934 nach gemeinsamen Anstrengungen mit Baldwin, Westinghouse und General Electric die GG1 entstand. Für die schnittige Linie sorgte der berühmte Industriedesigner Raymond Loewy. Die GG1 zog alle Arten von Personenzügen auf der mehrgleisigen "Rennstrecke" zwischen New York, Washington und Harrisburg, u. a. auch die legendären Luxuszüge "Congressional" und "Braodway Limited". Mit 18 Pullman-Wagen konnte sie schneller als 100 mph (ca. 160 kmh) fahren. In späteren Jahren wurden einige für den Güterzugdienst umgebaut. Zwei GG1 konnten genau so viele Güterwagen ziehen wie eine " Big Boy" - und das ohne Lärm und Rauch und viel billiger.

MODELL: Ganzmetall. Automatisches Heben und Senken der Pantographen je nach Fahrtrichtung. Fernbedienbare Kupplung. Lok fährt DC, DCC (Funktionen F0 bis F28) und DCS. Wir empfehlen den DCS-Betrieb mit dem "Commander" 507-501028, der die einfachste Bedienung und die größte Funktionsvielfalt bietet.

"LITTLE JOE"

VORBILD: Die Little Joe hat ihren Namen von Josef Stalin. Ursprünglich wurden sie von General Electric für die Transsibirische Eisenbahn gebaut. Als sie 1948 ausgeliefert werden sollten, waren im Kalte Krieg die Exporte nach Russland bereits eingefroren. GE musste sich für die 20 Lokomotiven neue Kundschaft suchen. Schließlich landeten die mächtigen Elloks bei einigen der Gesellschaften, die auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent über elektrifizierte Strecken verfügen: Bei der "Milwaukee Road", der "Chicago South Shore and South Bend" und bei der brasilianischen "Paulista Railroad". Die Milwaukee Road musterte ihre 12 Little Joes 1974 aus, bei der CSS&SB fuhren sie bis 1983 und in Brasilien sind die als "Russas" bekannten Loks bis Ende der 1990er Jahre gefahren.

Bei der Milwaukee Road wurden die Loks der "Rocky Mountain Division" zwischen Harlowton (Montana) und Avery (Idaho) zugewiesen: 10 Stück mit der Bezeichnung EF-4 für den Güterzugdienst und und zwei als EP-4 für den Luxus-Reisezug "Olympian Hiawatha". Ursprünglich arbeiteten die "Joes" jeweils  paarweise im Güterzugverkehr. Auf den steilen Gebirgsstrecken bekam des "Joe-Pärchen" ab Mitte der 1950er Jahre eine GP9 als festen Helfer beigestellt. In den 1960er Jahren dienten die Joes dann oft als Vorspann für Diesel-Güterzüge, wobei der Lokführer von der Ellok aus auch die Diesellokomotiven unter Kontrolle hatte. Aus dieser Vorbildpraxis ergeben sich viele interessante Modellbahn-Möglichkeiten!

VORBILD: Die GE E-2 Bi-Polar von 1919 wurde "Die Stumme" genannt, weil die Lok fast geräuschlos fuhr und nicht heulte und wimmerte, wie zu dieser Zeit Elloks normalerweise in Erscheinung traten. "Bi-Polar" bezeichnet die zweipolige Motoreinspeisung. Sie war zu ihrer Zeit auch die mächtigste und schnellste Ellok. Bei der Milwaukee Road bestimmten 5 Stück dieser Lokomotiven nahezu 40 Jahre das Geschehen. Eine überlebte als Ausstellungsstück in St. Louis, Missouri.
